James J Holsworth (Private – service No 3/10758)


James was born in Hemblington in 1887 to James and Eliza nee Horner of Brundall.  James Siblings were:

  • Alice 1889
  • Florence 1891

James was a painter by trade, he married Sophia Elizabeth nee Naylor.  They had a son Maurice Ruben in 1909 and lived in Ferry Road, Surlingham.

Sophia’s father George Naylor lived next door at Marsh House, Ferry Road, Surlingham.

James served with the Norfolk Regiment and saw duty in France and Flanders.  He was killed in action 4 June 1916 aged 29 and is buried in Faubourg-D’AmeinsCemetery, Arras, France (Part I A-L ).

It is likely that Private Holsworth was entitled to the following campaign medals
