Our Heritage

Our heritage: ’what does it mean to me?’

During the summer of 2012, a series of events in Rockland and Surlingham were held to celebrate the traditional skills that are part of our heritage in this part of Norfolk – skills like willow weaving.  This celebration will be carried on with further events such as a film evening in the New Year.  Another aspect of the heritage our personal heritage is family history.  For many years Fred Morris pursued this as a hobby; and he helped for many people who came to Surlingham to trace the history of their own families.  Fred’s passing away last year prompted a group to think about continuing his interest in tracing and preserving family history as well as other aspects of the rich history which forms our heritage in Surlingham.

This page is intended to stimulate further debate about how we each regard this subject.  Your thoughts will be shared at the film evening planned in January.  Please add your comments below on what heritage means to me.
