Gary Hoadley of Norfolk Constabulary has contacted us about setting up a local speedwatch group;
Dear all,
As you may be aware I have be hoping to set up a Community Speedwatch for the area for some time now.
The opportunity has arisen for your parishes to help establish an “Eastern Rivers Speedwatch Group” utilising the new SAM machine which has recently been purchased by the South Norfolk District Council for our area. At this stage I am looking to gauge your interest as to weather you would be interested in being part of such a group, and if so, how many of volunteers each parish would be willing to provide.
Once we have an idea as to how many parishes (and subsequently volunteers) we have on board we will then be able to go into the finer details. I am aware that some parishes have expressed a concern that they would not want to be seen as the ‘bad person’ catching speeding motorists in their village and would be worried about any repercussions that might arise – please can I assure you that the purpose of the SAM machine is to inform road users of their speed at the road side (it also records the data for evidential use if necessary, i.e. if a parish wanted to prove that motorists were speeding on a particular road on a regular basis) it will not generate a letter home to the driver. There will also be the option for parishes to work together, so one parish could cover a different area and vice versa.

I am hoping that we may be able to get together a group of volunteers from Surlingham to work with the Eastern Rivers Speedwatch Group.
If you are interested please contact Natasha Dunlop using ‘contact us‘(see top of this page) on this site by the end of January.
