Village fayre – biggest success ever!

A message from Pat Henderson-Begg (Treasurer of the Fayre Committee).

Well done to everyone who contributed to make our 2013 Summer Fayre such a great success. Pre-sales and receipts on the day came to £2926.80. Our expenses to date £222.30. These draft figures are unlikely to change very much. With modest expenses it has also been possible to buy another Gazebo for use throughout the village with money held over from last year. We now have three and they will continue to prove their worth over the coming years. It was agreed by the committee that a large percentage of this year’s takings would be given to St Mary’s Church. As many of you know, building is taking place to provide a kitchen and toilet facilities; this is now well underway and should ensure that the use of the church for more community events is possible. However, every four years a ‘quinquennial’ inspection takes place to monitor the structural state of the building. The current one highlights numerous areas where urgent repairs are necessary; the Fayre committee agreed that the money given to the church this year should be ‘ring fenced’ for use towards such repairs.

It is very difficult to highlight particular individuals as so many contribute so much. Thanks are due to the committee which meets regularly throughout the year, with special mention to Sue and David Driver and their helpers who monitor the various items given. Many more sell programmes and Quiz sheets, so ably compiled by Monica Dickerson, and give their time on the day to ensure that everything moves smoothly throughout the afternoon. This year we need to say a special ‘thank you’ to Tim Mack who allowed us to use Grange Farm and who gave so generously in many other ways. We need all those who have been involved, this is a massive team event and of course it would not be successful if no one came on the day. So, Extra Special Thanks to EVERYONE, great result!
