The organisers of the Sailing Club are extremely concerned at the number of people – including young children – swimming from the sailing club area. The tides in this area are strong and there is also the danger of entanglement in the abundant growth of underwater plants and weeds, often unseen. There is also a lot of boat traffic on the river – likely to increase during the summer holidays – and spotting an unexpected swimmer in the water can be difficult. In short swimming from the Sailing Club could be dangerous and should be avoided.
