Norwich, 31st December 2025

Clive Evans of Surlingham, Norfolk, a long-standing Volunteer Ambassador for Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s New Year Honours in recognition of his services to the community and to end of life care.

Clive has supported Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity since 2018 and was previously a Volunteer Ambassador for Marie Curie. Over many years, he has been devoted to fundraising, awareness-raising and community action to help ensure local people can access high-quality end of life care. Clive is regularly seen giving talks, organising bucket collections in supermarkets, hosting golf days and even serving tea to His Majesty the King. To date, he has helped raise more than £100,000 to support the appeal to build the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge and to enhance care for patients and their loved ones at the hospice.

Alongside his charity work, Clive is widely known in his village for his commitment to community life and his dedication to helping others over the last 35 years. He sits on the Parochial Church Council and leads occasional church services, writes the village newsletter and assists in running the village website. During the Covid pandemic, he also helped coordinate local volunteering to ensure vulnerable neighbours could access essential support, including shopping and the collection of prescriptions.

Fearn Hambling, CEO of Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, said: “Clive’s British Empire Medal is a richly deserved recognition of his extraordinary commitment to others. He has been a tireless ambassador for compassionate end of life care and a wonderful champion for our work at Priscilla Bacon Lodge. We are immensely grateful for everything he does, and proud to celebrate this honour with him.”

Clive Evans said: “I was amazed when I was informed of the award, and I feel very humbled by the honour. I’ve always liked helping people, and I’m passionate about the provision of end of life care in Norfolk.”

Clive was also named the Eastern Daily Press Norfolk Charity Hero of the Year in 2020 and was highly commended in the Volunteer of the Year category at the East Anglia Awards for the Chartered Institute of Fundraising in 2022.
