Charcoal Making Day on Alderfen Marshes

We are delighted to welcome James Hookway to Alderfen Marshes on Saturday 17th of July to share his experience and expertise in making charcoal and biochar using the Hookway retort and biochar kiln.

A charcoal retort provides an extremely efficient and environmentally-friendly way to create charcoal and the biochar kiln offers an excellent way to convert waste brash into biochar. In a time where carbon capture is becoming increasingly important it’s useful to understand ways we can contribute at a local level.

We need to limit numbers to six people with over 18s only for safety.

The day runs from 9.30am – 4.00pm. During this interactive session you will have the chance to get hands-on with the charcoal making process, learn useful techniques and ask questions to the expert.

£25.00 per person for the day and places must be pre-booked. Bring a packed lunch and we’ll provide tea and coffee.

If you are interested in coming along to learn more about making charcoal, let us know.
