SAVE THE BELLS OF ST MARY’S
As the longest-reigning monarch in British history celebrated seventy years on the throne, Surlingham residents were celebrating a bit of their history too. At the evening service for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday 5th June, John and Christine Glynn presented a cheque for £3,000 to St Mary’s church tower repair fund.

They recently produced “Surlingham in Time: Meet the Medieval Ancestors”, a carefully researched book about the village and its churches from 1066 to the end of the first Queen Elizabeth’s reign in 1603.
Generous sponsorship from villagers meant that all the proceeds from the sale of the book could be donated to St Mary’s, with its round tower housing historic 14th century bells in dire need of urgent repair, to the tune of £130,000.
Donate £20 to save St Mary’s, and in return receive a piece of Surlingham history.
