This weekend is the first weekend of Celebration 2012, a celebration of arts and nature in Surlingham and Rockland. A wide range of events in both villages is planned and an updated programme can be found under ‘special events’ on Surlingham.org.  Most events are ‘drop in’ although a few arts workshops do have to be booked.

Families with young children are particularly welcome for  ‘Weave a walk’  at The Rectory, 10-4 Saturday, 2-4 Sunday.  There is a barbecue at Coldham from 6pm on Saturday and Surlingham’s Broadnotes choir will be singing at Coldham Hall at 3pm on Sunday.  And if you fancy trying out the church bells do come along to a demonstration and ‘have a go’ on Sunday at 5pm at St Mary’s.

In Rockland this weekend you can do printmaking, animation and make medals or book yourself in for a stone mason’s or photography workshop.  There will also be canoe trails, nature walks, art exhibitions and boat trips.

Could we please point out that proceeds from the Progressive Supper go to church funds and not, ‘ church and village’ funds as stated in an earlier post.

Tickets are now available for the Progressive Supper.  For those who aren’t familiar with it this is a delightful family every at which everyone goes to one house for a starter, another for a main course and another for a dessert.  Starting times are staggered: 6pm, 6.30p,. 7pm, or 7.30pm.  Phone Pippa 538245 or Hilary 538117 for tickets.  Proceeds to church and village funds.

The raffle will be drawn on the last evening of the event, tickets are available at the event only, both at Surlingham and Rockland Staithe and the draw will commence at the Ferry pub just before the Folk session on the 1July, 8pm

Just to say we had a slight technical difficulty yesterday which resulted in each Jublilee photo appearing in a separate email.  We are aware of it and will take steps to avoid it happening again. Please bear with us – we are still learning!

And please get friends and neighbours to ‘follow’.  That way the whole village can keep in touch with what’s going on. 

This weekend sees the Church filled with colour and the wonderful art produced by children from Surlingham, Rockland St Mary and Alpington Art Clubs. The work is wonderfully diverse and  a celebration of the immense talent and imagination the young exhibitors possess. The children taking part are only 5 – 11 years old. The exhibition is open all day Saturday 16 June and in the afternoon of Sunday 17 June until 3.30pm. Thank you again St Marys for allowing us to show the exhibition in such a wonderful setting.
