UK Power Networks have been advised that tree branches are entangled with a power cable beside the road on Walnut Hill. It is expected that UK power networks will attend the scene this afternoon.

A wallet was lost on the Covey a couple of days ago.  If anyone knows anything of its whereabouts could you please get in touch via Contact Us and we will pass the message on to the owner.

Please be aware there is a large tree down across the top of Walnut Hill which has brought down power cables. Police and services are aware but access/exit to/from the rest of the village via the hill is not likely to be possible for some time until clearing is able to be accomplished. Please drive carefully at this end of the village. Cars exceeding the 30 mph have already had to halt very abruptly and turn back.

Recalling the noise disruption both day and night caused last year from a weekend party in Postwick, the Parish Council has contacted both Broadland and South Norfolk District Councils Environmental Health Officers to preempt a repeat this year. Broadland Officers will be on duty over the weekend this year to monitor the situation.

In the event of a problem the contact telephone number for Surlingham residents is the usual SNDC Environmental Health telephone number 01508 533701. Outside normal working hours calls are redirected to the duty officer. The Officers are aware of the situation and will liaise with their counterparts in Broadland.

You may have seen the forecast of unsettled weather over the next few days with heavy rain and lightning affecting parts of the East and South East of England.

We are currently monitoring the weather closely and we are in regular contact with the Met Office as the forecast develops.

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can affect overhead and underground power lines, resulting in some customers losing their electricity supply. Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We have organised for additional staff in our contact centre to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather, and we have called-up additional engineers to carry out repairs to our electricity network.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

·         Call 105 to report power cuts and damage to the electricity network, or 0800 3163 105 (from a corded phone or mobile phone if you have no power)

We urge the public to stay well clear from power lines and anyone spotting a damaged power line needs to report it to us immediately by calling 105 from a landline or mobile phone.

If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.
