This is timely given the power issues in Surlingham yesterday!

Be Winter Ready aims to encourage people to prepare in case they experience a power cut or gas emergency this winter.  

Steps you can take to ‘Be Winter Ready’:

• Know your free emergency numbers: In a power cut dial 105 or, for a gas emergency, dial 0800 111999
• Prepare your home: Keep a torch handy and get your appliances serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Register as a vulnerable customer: Vulnerable households can get extra support by signing up to the Priority Services Register, dial 0800 169 9970 to find out more about the Priority Services Register or to sign up.
• Keep your eyes open: Keep an eye on the weather forecast and, if you have a power cut or a gas emergency, check on your neighbours.

For information: UK Power Networks have had a power issue in Surlingham this afternoon affecting around 500 houses.  This manifested itself with a short (less then 1 second) power out and then low voltage thereafter.  Power seems to have been resorted but the ‘official’ fix time at the moment is between 1800 and 1900 today.

South Norfolk District Council have advised that a local needs affordable home (a 1 bedroom house) will soon be available for re-letting.   The house is suitable for a single person or a couple, perhaps seeking their first home.

The property will be advertised, by Saffron, on the South Norfolk Home Options System from Thursday, 16^th November until the following Wednesday, 22^nd November.

This home has been built first and foremost for people who are in need of affordable housing who have a local connection to Surlingham. That ‘local connection’ includes currently living in the village; and/or working there; and/or having previously lived there and now wishing to return.

The property is then next prioritised for households from the neighbouring parishes of Bramerton, Claxton, Rockland St Mary and Kirby Bedon.
