This week’s services (6th March), Lent Group and Lent Lunch

Dear All,

I hope you are keeping well. This Sunday’s services will be: 9.30am Communion at Claxton and 11am Morning Prayer at Carleton St. Peter.

We continue to pray for an end to the conflict in Ukraine and for the safety and future of its people.

Lent is also a time for stillness, reflection and prayer, and the Barn will host Contemplative Prayer on Monday at 7.30pm. If you seek some quiet space in your life, this may be for you. Please contact me for further details.

On Saturday we’re holding the first in our series of Lent Lunches in the Barn. You’re welcome to drop in between 12 Noon and 3pm on Saturday (12th) for homemade soup and scones, bread and cheese, all-age seasonal crafts plus good company! We’re supporting this year’s Diocesan Lent Appeal for Sag Sag Health Health Centre in Papua New Guinea

Services on the following Sunday (13th) are 9.30am Communion at Rockland St. Mary and 11am Communion at Surlingham.

Best wishes, Nick

Easter Holidays Activites – Bookings now open

Bookings are now open for The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun, a programme of free activities that will run over the Easter holidays for 5–16-year-olds across Norfolk.

The scheme is provided as part of the government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and is being delivered by Norfolk County Council in partnership with Active Norfolk.

“We are really pleased with the number of organisations who have stepped forward to be part of The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme which means that the programme can offer exciting opportunities for children and young people in Norfolk.”

The sessions offer children the chance to learn and develop new skills, alongside receiving a free nutritious lunch each day. Booking is on a first-come-first-served basis, with limited spaces for many activities, so families should book soon to avoid disappointment.

Parents will be sent promotional codes from their children’s school which they’ll need to use online to book their children onto an activity. Families are encouraged to explore the wide range of activities available and book as soon as possible.

Bookings open on Monday 21 February, details of the activities available and further information on how to book can be found at The Big Norfolk Holiday Fun on Active Norfolk

This weeks services, prayers for Ukraine, video and pancakes

Dear All, I hope you are keeping well.

Like so many, we have been shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine. Bishop Graham has asked us to pray for those whose lives are affected by this crisis, and our Sunday services (Feb 27th) will include the opportunity to light candles and pray for a just and peaceful end to the conflict. The services will be 10am Communion at Surlingham and 4pm Evensong at Rockland (Book of Common Prayer).

You’re also welcome to our video Morning Prayer, which can be watched here

On Tuesday we’re celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a Pancake Party in Rockland Parish Room between 12.15pm and 2.15pm. All proceeds will be divided equally between Home Start Norfolk and Rockland Church.

Ash Wednesday (Mar 2nd) marks the beginning of Lent and gains an added significance this year. Pope Francis has asked Christians across the world to pray and fast then for Ukraine. You are welcome to join us in silent prayer at Rockland St. Mary’s Church, 8.30am-9am, and Ash Wednesday Communion and Ashing in the Barn at 11am. The Barn service will be livestreamed on YouTube. Please type in ‘Helen Garrard’ in YouTube search to find the service on Helen’s channel or click the link on Rockland Churches Face Book page.

Friday (4th) is the annual World Day of Prayer, and this year the service will be held in Ashby and Thurton Village Hall at 2pm, with refreshments and a children’s corner.

Next Sunday’s services (6th) will be 9.30am Communion at Claxton and 11am Morning Prayer at Carleton St. Peter.

With all good wishes,

Nick and Helen
