Some advance notice for Christmas services at St Mary’s

Just so that you can plan your Christmas, here are current plans for services over the festive period.

On Sunday next, 19th December at 4pm there will be the Carol Service by candlelight, the path will be lit and in the church we have beautiful new candle holders made by Phil Reeve. The service will be followed by coffee/tea, squash and mince pies.

On Christmas Day there is a short Family Service at 10am, hopefully with an entertaining story from Alexandra and Clive Evans.

Masks need to be worn, including for singing, unfortunately. And there will be an organist for both services.

Recycling to help Hallswood animal sanctuary

Reduce the waste that goes to landfill and help animals at the same time!

To recycle items to help Hallswood then there is a drop off point outside Charickee (on School Lane, to the right of the Post Office). The poster below tells you which items can be recycled and the photo shows the drop off box.

Community Orchard planting days December 11 and 12

Our hedging trees are due to arrive this week and it would be good to get them planted as soon as possible. There will be 2 planting sessions – this Saturday morning 10-12 and Sunday afternoon 2-4 pm. You’re welcome to join us – a spade would be useful, as would gardening gloves.

SNDC – Consultation renaming sections of Pond Lane and New Road

Dear Residents

South Norfolk District Council have been made aware of anomalies in the postal addresses of 9, 10,11 and 12 Walnut Hill, Surlingham Norwich NR14 7DQ.

9 and 10 Walnut Hill are actually accessed off Pond Lane and 11 and 12 Walnut Hill are accessed off New Road.

After discussing this with those involved and it being discussed at the recent Parish Meeting, we propose to rename the sections of Pond Lane and New Road to Walnut Hill (As shown on the map below).

This is to give the residents the least disruption and to retain the properties historical association with Walnut Hill. ‘Walnut Hill’ is even engraved on two of the properties. Official notices of intent have been erected at the site and the effected residents written to. The consultation period is 21 days.

I would welcome any further comments you may have on the proposed changes in writing by 23 December 2021. If you have any queries, please contact me.

Yours Sincerely,

Kim Styles
