9:30am Morning Prayer at Surlingham, led by Clive Evans,
10.30am-12 Cafe Church in Rockland Parish Room, and
11am Harvest Festival in Kirby Bedon.

Parish Council – Two Casual Vacancies

The Parish Council invite expressions of interest from those interested in being co-opted to the Parish Council. The appointments will be made at the Parish Council meeting on 16 November 2021.

Closing date for applications Friday 5 November 2021

Qualifications to be a Councillor

A person is qualified to be elected and to be a councillor if they are a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen and on the 16 November 2021, they are 18 or over.

In addition, the person must meet at least one of the following criteria.

(1) on the 16 November 2021 and thereafter they continue to be on the electoral register for the parish, or

(2) during the whole of the twelve months before 16 November 2021 they have owned or tenanted land or premises in the parish, or

(3) during the whole of the twelve months before 16 November 2021 their principal or only place of work has been in the parish, or

(4) during the whole of the twelve months before that day 16 November 2021 they have resided in the parish or within three miles of it. 

Except for qualification (1), these qualifications then continue for the full 4 year term of office, until the next ordinary elections (May 2023). 

Certain people are disqualified from standing, and these include paid officers (including the Clerks) of the council, bankrupts, and those subject to recent sentences of imprisonment

Heroes and Villains Scarecrow Trail. Rockland St Mary 23rd/24th October

Just to let you know that the Rockland St Mary ‘Heroes and Villains’ Scarecrow Trail will take place from Saturday 23rd October – Sunday 31st October 2021.

Maps will be available from Rockland Village Shop from Saturday 23rd October for a suggested donation of £2. This year’s trail is sponsored by Winkworth Estate Agents and all proceeds help support the Friends of Rockland St Mary School.

This aims to be a fun and cheap outing during half term with the family, it’s going to be great!

The Community Cafe will also be open Friday 29th October 10am – 4pm at the Rockland St Mary Parish Rooms (NR14 7ER) serving lots of Tea, Coffee, Soup and a Variety of Yummy Cakes to break up your Scarecrow Spotting Walk – Takeaways Available!

The Fish Van is Back!

The fish van is back tomorrow (Thurs 13th Oct) as usual, from 10.30am-3pm! 

 Just head to Postcode NR14 4GD and follow the signs to the farm shop. Tele’s Patisserie is open from 10am so you can always grab a coffee or lunch while you’re here!

The shop is open 8am-9pm daily as usual, come and stock up on seasonal veg from Tacons as well as lots of other fresh local produce and cupboard essentials in the shop too!

NCC – Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Order affecting
the C195 Surlingham Lane from 200m north of its junction with C202 The Street for
200m northwards in the PARISH OF ROCKLAND ST MARY because of BT pole
replacement works.


The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) between 09:30 and 15:30 on
26th October 2021 for the duration of the works expected to be about 6 hours within
the period.


Alternative route is via: Surlingham Lane, The Street, Rookery Hill, Bramerton Lane,
Rockland Road, The Street, Surlingham Road, Bramerton Road, Walnut Hill, School
Lane, Mill Road (Rockland St Mary, Surlingham, Bramerton).
