TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTION 2020

Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 – Section 14(2)

In accordance with the provisions of Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984, the Norfolk County Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that owing to Anglian Water repairs to a burst water main the use by vehicles of the C195 Bramerton Road from its junction with the U78112 Cross Lane southwards for a distance of 30 metres in the PARISH OF SURLINGHAM will be temporarily prohibited from 20^th April 2020 to 24^th April 2020 for the duration of the works, expected to be about 5 days within the period. If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 21 days.

Alternative route is via: Bramerton Road, Walnut Hill, School Lane, Mill Road, Surlingham Lane, The Street, Rookery Hill, Bramerton Lane, Rockland Road, The Street, Surlingham Lane (Rockland St. Mary/ Surlingham/ Bramerton).

(If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 18 months from the date of the Order)

Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.

Wherever you go, following these steps will help keep your pet safe, protect the environment, and show you are a responsible dog owner.

• Control your dog so that it does not scare or disturb farm animals or wildlife
• When using the new access rights over open country and common land, you must keep your dog on a short lead between 1 March and 31 July – and all year round near farm animals – and you may not be able to take your dog at all on some areas or at some times. Please follow any official signs.
• You do not have to put your dog on a lead on public paths, as long as it is under close control. But as a general rule, keep your dog on a lead if you cannot rely on its obedience. By law, farmers are entitled to destroy a dog that injures or worries their animals.
• If a farm animal chases you and your dog, it is safer to let your dog off the lead – don’t risk getting hurt by trying to protect it.
• Take particular care that your dog doesn’t scare sheep and lambs, or wander where it might disturb birds that nest on the ground and other wildlife – eggs and young will soon die without protection from their parents.
• Everyone knows how unpleasant dog mess is and it can cause infections, so always clean up after your dog and get rid of the mess responsibly. Also, make sure your dog is wormed regularly to protect it, other animals and people.

I’m reading it here in Caves Beach, part of the City of Lake Macquarie in south-east Australia. The images in this mild season before we move properly into autumn – azaleas fooled by the springtime range are in bloom – though chrysanthemums are on time – of lawns mown and birds chirruping and walkers, cyclists and joggers out and about keeping physically distant because of Covid-19 are pretty much the same as in Surlingham.  We are all in this together.

My great x 3 grand-mother was Susannah Holmes b. 1764 and became part of the complement sent to New South Wales with the First Fleet arriving in January 1788. 

I have been to Surlingham – first time was 1988.

Norfolk residents are reminded to remain vigilant, and look out for vulnerable neighbours, as rogue traders operate during the lockdown period.

Doorstep rogue traders will pretend to be skilled tradespeople such as builders, gardeners or handymen, offering services which often turns out to be of poor quality or unnecessary, resulting in costs that can rise far beyond an agreed quote.

If tradespeople are needed, these should be secured from reliable sources such as Norfolk County Council’s Trusted Traders website.
Door to door selling is not currently categorised as ‘essential travel’, and should not be taking place.
Officers are reminding residents of the following, to help them stay safe against rogue traders:
• Trust your instincts. While many people are genuine and want to help you, there are others who will try to take advantage of you.
• Always remember in the case of cold calling – it is your home and you don’t have to agree to anything. Do not be bullied.
• Take your time when making decisions. Only criminals will try to rush you.
• Search for tradespeople through reliable sources, or take recommendations from people you trust.
• If you feel threatened or in danger, go inside, stay inside, and call 999.

If a rogue trader is currently at your home or will be coming back, you can contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133 (freephone).
If you think you’ve been a victim of rogue trading or a scam, you can report it to Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime, click the link  or call 0300 123 2040.

May we thank everyone for their continued support of the shop.

Now that people are using cards more than ever we do continue to ask that min payment on the card machine is £10. It has always been this ever since we opened and is written on the card machine, but never has it been more important to stress as our margins in the shop are small and we are charged for every transaction.

We have also noticed a lot of joggers and walkers about here on the farm. We must stress that this is not a thoroughfare and is to be used for people using the patisserie and farm shop, especially in these times as it can lead to over crowding of the footpath and road entrance which can make those using the facilities uneasy to have to be dodging joggers etc. We of course want to promote a sense of community and have been so grateful for your support of our small businesses and know that coming use the shop and the patisserie is a wonderful way to combine your daily exercise and essential food shop in one go. We just need to think of  and be considerate towards others as much as possible please.

We had one jogger earlier run right through the back farm yard. I could not shout a warning as she had her headphones in. This is so so very dangerous. We can not allow the public in this area through the large gates off of The Covey and it is clearly signed as such as there is a lot heavy farm machinery about. We have never allowed anyone through that part of the farm.

Thank you to those who use the farm facilities sensibly and continue to do so. If there is anything we can get for you in the shop that you are after please put a note in the comments tray in the shop and we will see what we can do.
