We are pleased to announce that Johanne Couldrey, a Norfolk textile artist currently exhibiting her work at the Raveningham Sculpture Trial, is to lead a workshop on Friday 23rd November in the Parish Room, Rockland St Mary.
If you would like to reserve a place the cost is £25, which includes cake and refreshment.
Johanne will have a range of recycled materials to help you enjoy a fun day and to create lovely things.

Our pubs in Surlingham play a huge part in our local life and South Norfolk Council’s Community Pub of the Year awards are here to help recognise the impact they have on our community.
Voting is now open and closes on 9th September.
There are four categories to choose from:
1 Outstanding Community Focus
This is the pub who goes over and above what is expected from them within the community. Whether they host regular events, fundraise for local causes or always make sure there is room for your community group, this is the pub that is the most community focussed.
2 Best Customer Service
This is the pub where everybody is always happy to see you. They go the extra mile in ensuring you have the best time in their pub. From a smiley face at the bar, to the extra please and thank you, this is the pub that has the best customer service.
3 Most Family Friendly
This is the pub that welcomes you all, from the day you were born. They are ready for you all, with room for the buggy, water for the dogs and quieter areas for you all to chat, this is the pub that is the most family friendly.
4 Tastiest Food and Drink
This is the pub you always go to for their food or their drink. They have exactly what you want when you want it, and it tastes delicious too. The options may be endless, or they may be just what you want, this is the pub that serves the best food or drink.

Various local cats visit the Padmaloka garden and enjoy exploring the place.
We’re sorry to report however that a cat we don’t recognise visited the garden a couple of days ago and we since found that it had died here.
The cat is a brown tabby cat with no collar and white beneath its neck.

Surlingham’s bells will ring out at 12.30 on Saturday to remind the village that the Fayre at Padmaloka will open at 1.30.
Padmaloka will be selling their bread, quiches, and cakes and we’ll be serving refreshments from 1.45 – teas,cakes, and ice-creams.
Forest School will be there with a variety of activities for kids, and we’ll also be welcoming 3 local artists with their work, and the work of 3 local craftspeople including wood-craft, tapestry weaving, and original hand-crafted jewellery
……and the weather’s due to smile on us too!

……to everyone who supported the pop-up cafes in the church this summer – our lovely cake bakers, volunteers who assisted at the events, and our visitors who came along to enjoy cakes and teas/coffees. Thanks to all of you for helping to raise £710 towards the church repair fund.

It has been a tough summer for Sylvia at the shop, She says there have been fewer holidaymakers than ever, perhaps due to the heatwave. We are so lucky to have a Post Office in a village this size. Imagine if you couldn’t pick up that pint of milk after a holiday, or some of those odd things that people run out of, that Sylvia quite cleverly stocks. So please, please, please try and do your post office business there, and pick up an item or two instead of buying in Norwich . We are in a real danger of losing this amenity at the hub of the village.
