A great stop to grab some delicious treats. From 10am for a few hours so be sure to pop in at the farm shop so as not to miss out.
Lots of other treats including our fresh and frozen beef and fish, sausages, pork and more to grab too.
We are open all weekend 8am-9pm every single day no matter the bank holiday, no matter the weather.

Visitors from Norwich, South Norfolk and beyond are being invited to discover our lovely riverside walk and sample Surlingham’s best home made cakes as the church turns into a cafe again – this time on the first Sunday afternoons of May, June, July and August. Readers of Surlingham.org of course know the walk already but might like to invite their friends and relatives to make an afternoon of it and enjoy coffee/tea and cakes in the church and its surroundings. Walk directions will be given out on arrival and these include quiz questions for families.
The tower of the church is in a very bad way – and badly needs funds, so monies raised from the cafe will go towards the church building fund.
The cafe and walk start point will be open between 2 and 4.30pm on the first Sundays of May, June, July and August. More details can be found under Special Interest on this site.
A number of historic records belonging to a Hollywood film director have been returned to Norfolk County Archives.
John Villiers Farrow, the Oscar-winning director and father of actress Mia Farrow, bought the lordship of the Surlingham Manor House in 1937.
The documents capture the history of Surlingham, near Norwich, from 1602 through to the 20th Century.
“These documents have an extraordinary interesting recent history,” said Johan Alban, a county archivist.
“They have been out of the county for many years and we are delighted to have them back in Norfolk,” he said.
It is not known why Mr Farrow, an Australian, who served as a naval commander during World War II, bought the title.
Manorial records
After taking the records back to Los Angeles, Mr Farrow donated them to the University of Southern California, where they were kept in the library’s archives.
The quest to bring the documents home, began ten years ago when archive user Fred Morris was told by staff at the Norfolk Record Office that the manorial rolls might help in proving the age of his cottage.
After contacing the university’s archivist, Claude Zachary, in Los Angeles, the documents were sent back to Norfolk.
“We have had numerous requests by genealogists and local Norfolk landowners for information from these records, ” said Dr Zachary.
“It would be in everyone’s best interest that these records be returned to the Norfolk County Archives.”
The manorial records include surveys, maps, and court rolls, and reflect the main framework for life in England and Wales from 1602 through to the early 19th Century.

The Konect bus was damaged trying to negotiate the hair-pin bend on Ferry Road and The Common. Please be aware that Konect have said if vehicles are damaged they may either take action to recover the cost of the damage or reroute the bus to avoid the area.
By working together we were successful in keeping the No85 let’s not put it in jeopardy.
The WW1 Commemoration – 100 Years of Remembrance
Beacon Lighting Ceremony – Sunday 11 November 2018 at 7:00
Volunteers needed to form a group to arrange a village event to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1.
The celebration’s focus is on the lighting of a beacon and must be accessible to everyone.
The broad outline so far is that the commemoration should centre in and around the parish hall. With a gas fired beacon on the school field (suitably risk assessed) followed by refreshments in the hall. It is after all November so you will want to warm up.
The late Peter Hiscocks had begun to build an archive of information about the villagers of Surlingham in the war. He wanted to present the final document to the primary school. The councillors would like to complete this in Peter’s memory and display it in the hall that evening before handing it over to the school.
What else? How about Glo sticks for the children on the field to create a circle of lights around the beacon or Surlingham Broadnotes leading the village in songs from the era ‘keep the home fires burning’, ‘pack-up your troubles’ etc etc?
Come on Surlingham let’s get together and make it a fitting tribute
