Children’s Fun Afternoon Sunday 22nd June Ted Ellis Trust Nature Reserve

Programme

In the study centre

Fossil display – explore Richard Belson’s amazing collection of fossils and minerals, many of which were found here in Norfolk. If you would like to have your own fossils identified, or want general advice on where and how to hunt for fossils in the local area, just ask Richard.

Self-led activities – there are a range of spotter sheets, and things to draw and write on if you are between other activities, or if you just like doing your own thing.

Guided Walks will set off from the study centre – check the blackboard for times.

  • Dragonfly walk with Peter Armitage
  • Bee walk with Adam Clark

South Yare Wildlife Group Have you heard of SYWG? They are a local group which promotes, for the benefit of the public, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of the South Yare area. Come and find out more, get involved or enjoy a bug hunt.

Refreshments Tea, coffee, squash and biscuits will be available throughout the afternoon.

In the workshop

Make a film using natural objects with local animator, Suzie. Space is limited for this activity so you will need to book a slot on arrival. First come first served basis. The workshop is on the right as you head to the reserve, next to Wheatfen Cottage.

At the Thatch

Pond dipping with Dan. This will be going on fairly continuously throughout the afternoon. Guided walks will terminate here.

In the woods

Natasha will be reading Gruffalo stories. Follow the path from the car park into the woods. You will find Natasha a short way in on the right hand side. There are a few mosquitos around so don’t forget your mozzie repellent.

You can make Gruffalo-style creatures, fairy gardens, or creations of your own imagining from the things you find around you.

Surlingham Graveyard Map: C and D-E pages now live

People who’s names begin with C, D or E can now be searched and located in St Mary’s and St Saviour’s graveyard.  To find the location of the grave, enter the name of the person you are searching for in the field under the text ‘Search the site’ at the top right of each page and follow the links to the page with the information.  Over time we will put more and more pages with other surnames, also searchable.

The compilation of this information was done in 2009 by Graham Loveday King who kindly donated it to Surlingham.org.  Transcription into an internet searchable form has been done by us.  Due to the volume of data some mistakes may have crept in for which we apologise in advance.  Please use Contact us to make us aware of any necessary changes.  The graveyard map is reproduced on each page of the listing and can also be accessed by clicking here.  We hope that these pages form a valuable archive for anyone searching for a grave in the churchyard or building.
