Dear All, I hope you are keeping well and looking forward to tomorrow’s Zoom Art Cafe, where we will be looking into Mark Rothko’s artworks, particularly his 1962 painting No. 1, White and Red. Best wishes, Nick
Keep an eye on your cats on The Green and the rest of the village as yesterday our cat came home mauled after a vicious attack. He is doing okay now but only just survived as the attack was around his throat area and caused a lot of bleeding. The vet thinks it could be a fox, dog or even another cat.

Well, it is certainly starting to get cooler. We should hopefully have some firewood in the shop in bags like we usually do and also can do larger amounts if you give us a call on 01508 538206. The potato harvest is underway here on the farm, even if a bit delayed by the wet weather. We had a few rows planted this year especially for you in the shop. A great all rounder. So as soon as we have them in the next week or two they will be back in, in our 12.5kg big bags of unwashed and we will even put some large single spuds out for you to buy in the veg stand.
We do a few deliveries to people on Friday still. If you are self isolating or shielding or know anyone who lives locally who would benefit do give them our number: 01508 538206. A self service shop as part of a nice walk in the countryside makes coming here a good option, but really, if you ever need anything delivering just let us know, we will always make time.
Well done to our steak winner last week. The answer was 62. (The number on the yellow Combine Harvester in the picture in the shop). We will hold another one some time so be alert!
The bread is going well. Just trying to find what you like best. Seems to be the smaller loaves, sliced and wholemeal are popular as well as the sourdough. We have some more to sell in the freezer that were frozen fresh in the shop so do come grab them (the freezer behind the veg stand). We then have an order of more fresh coming Saturday monring. We just need to find balance like we try with the beef. We need to sell most of the frozen before we order more fresh, otherwise we risk piling more on top on the freezer. The more the fresh sells, the better turn around of fresh bread we will have. But we all know, just like the beef, it all freezes just as well. We even have the crumpets frozen in the same freezer and Lily and I can vouch that they taste just as fab once popped straight in the toaster frozen.
Beef Ramen (Serves 4x and 15 Mins to cook):
Ramen is a good all rounder for any time of year, but we thought it would be a great recipe to try and we usually have most, if not all ingredients in our little but mighty shop. It should be a winner for all. Takes 15 mins start to finish, has tasty beef, slurpy filling noodles and soul warming broth. This is for a beef Ramen as we have lots of our delicious farm reared beef in the freezer, but if you want to go veggie, just use veggie stock and add more veg, be creative. Gluten free? Just use gluten free soy sauce and noodles.
Ingredients:
1x tbsp of Yare Valley Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil 2x cloves of garlic peeled and crushed 1x 5cm piece of peeled and grated ginger 1x handful of spring onions with green and white parts separated 2x Beef stock cubes mixed into 1.25Litres of boiling water 1x tsp sugar 1x tsp soy sauce 1x Yare Valley Steak of your choice cut into thin slices 1x handful of french beans or greens of your choice. Topped and tailed and cut up Salt – to taste Spash of sesame oil 4x boiled eggs cooled and halved. 1x egg per person’s bowl 1x large pack (250-3500g) of noodles
Method:
In a saucepan heat the oil and fry the white parts of the spring onion along with the garlic and ginger for a couple of minutes. Add the stock, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, noodles and then add the greens and thin strips of beef, stir and allow to simmer for 5 minutes until the beef is cooked and noodles are tender. Salt to taste if need be.
Share between 4x bowls and scatter with the green parts of the spring onions and place the halved boiled egg in each bowl. Top with spinach/ herbs/other greens too if desired.
Enjoy! As always, big waves from everyone at the farm and thank you for being fab.
Dear all, I hope you are keeping well (and dry!). Attached is this month’s Barn Owl, packed with news about art, spirituality and carrots, plus the Art Cafe programme…
