We have launched our consultation on the draft national flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy for England. The draft strategy marks the culmination of engagement with over 90 organisations. The Secretary of State for Defra in his climate change speech last year recognised that we need to “explore new philosophies around flood and coast management”. The draft strategy begins that process. The consultation is an opportunity to hear your views on those new philosophies and the level of ambition within the draft strategy.

The draft strategy sets out a vision for “a nation ready for, and resilient to, flooding and coastal change – today, tomorrow and to the year 2100.” It has three ambitions:

• Climate resilient places;
• Today’s growth and infrastructure to be resilient in tomorrow’s climate
• A nation of climate champions, able to adapt to flooding and coastal change through innovation

The consultation runs until 4 July and we are engaging stakeholders throughout the consultation period to encourage them and their networks to respond.

This is a very comprehensive consultation with 18+ questions so please just complete the areas that are relevant to you and your community as necessary.

NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Order affecting the footpath Surlingham FP2 from its junction with footpath Surlingham FP3 for a distance of 215 metres southwards in the PARISH OF SURLINGHAM because of works to repair a broken boardwalk.

The footpath will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 13^th June 2019 to 1^st August 2019 for the duration of the works, expected to be 50 days within the period.

Alternative route is via: Surlingham FP3, Surlingham FP1

(If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 6 months from the date of the Order).

Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.

In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance.

Emails claiming to be from Royal Mail

We are asking residents to be aware of emails circulating claiming to be from Royal Mail.

The poorly worded email claims, ‘Courier was unable to deliver the parcel to you’ and asks you to ‘Please confirm your parcel from £3.95’. This is followed with a ‘Confirm Now’ link.

These emails are a scam and are not connected with Royal Mail in any way. Anyone following the link will be taken to a website which will attempt to gather personal and financial information.

Royal Mail offer advice on dealing with scam emails using their name and list examples of known scam emails on the Royal Mail website.

Doorstep cold caller offering power tools

We are warning residents to be on their guard after receiving reports of a man approaching people in the Ormesby area offering to sell power tools. The man was seen to return to a silver Renault van.

We advise never to purchase items if approached in this manner.

There is a high possibility that the items being sold are low-quality counterfeits which could be unsafe to use or stolen.

Doorstep cold callers selling household cleaning products

We are warning residents to continue to be on their guard after receiving further reports of doorstep cold callers trying to sell household cleaning products.

Recent reports have been received from the King’s Lynn and Cromer areas.

We advise never to deal with anyone who cold calls at your property offering to sell something.

Doorstep cold caller enquiring about your energy supplier

We are warning residents to be on their guard after receiving reports of doorstep cold callers in the Bradwell and Bowthorpe areas.

The cold callers are saying they have been ‘sent by the Energy Companies to see if you’re happy with your current energy supplier’. The cold callers then ask for details, including information about your current energy supplier.

Our advice is never deal with doorstep cold callers and never be pressured into sharing information on the doorstep, no matter what claims are being made.
