He sharpens not only knives and scissors but also your garden tools. So hurry and get that all sorted before spring!

Being a teacher for so long… ups 22 years is a lot, isn’t it? Well, as I was saying, being a teacher for so long and because many of you have been asking if I would do private language lessons and when and how, I have decided to start this from March onwards.
There will be lots of options available for Spanish, Portuguese and French. Either as a holiday need or something deeper or even get your children’s GCSE I will have packages for everyone – from 5 years old till… any age really.
Timetable will be according to your own personal needs and I can do one to one lessons or small groups (grab a friend and come!)
Translation work is also possible if needed.

Surlingham has seven parish councillors

The parish council has overall responsibility for the well-being of its local community. Its work falls into three main categories:

• representing the local community
• delivering services to meet local needs
• striving to improve quality of life in the parish

How do you do that as a parish councillor?

• By attending the 11 regular meetings of the council,
• Attending training provided by Norfolk Association of Local Councils,
• Being proactive and sharing the responsibilities of the council with your fellow councillors.

A councillor is the public face of the council, is impartial setting personal feelings to one side for the good of the whole village. A councillor meets face to face with residents who have concerns or suggestions and brings that information to the council for a decision or if it is within their remit resolves the matter themselves by meeting with a contractor or liaising with the relevant agency e.g. leaking tap at the parish hall or flooding and blocked road drains, and then recording their actions at the next meeting.

What is the role of the clerk?

The clerk is an employee and deals with the administration and finances of the council.

If you would like to apply either collect a nomination pack at the parish meeting on 19 February 2019 or 19 March 2019, contact the clerk for a pack or print a copy using the link.

The nomination pack must be handed in person to South Norfolk District Council between 26 March 2019 and 3 April 2019

Publication of the  nominations will be posted on South Norfolk District Council’s website by 4 April 2019.

These studies will have been approved by the UEA and/or NHS ethics panels and are focused on conditions like arthritis or stroke rehabilitation, as well as for healthy volunteers.
