Mothers day! What do you mean Mothers day?! Every day is blooming Mothers Day! Only joking. Plus, we wont get into the argument of whether there should be an apostrophe in there or not.

Either way Joaquim will be here this Sunday 11th March from 10am with lots and lots of wonderful goodies for mum (but mainly for you) and if you are you and you are a mum, well that is just the best of both world isn’t it.

Side Note: Just for equality sake we would like to mention men, including all dads are also allowed to buy pastries this Sunday also. However over indulgence is not permitted.

We are still selling (giving away) the last of our old branded stock within the farm shop for the princely sum of just a donation of your choice. All proceeds from the sales will go the Trussell Trust Food Bank in Norwich tackling poverty and hunger within the city, a fantastic cause we hope you will agree. The oils are just as delicious but have a slightly shorter best before date (august this year). We would love as many of you lovely people to get involved in this as possible and help us help others slightly less fortunate out a little………

Lots of bags of spuds and firewood too! We also have veg in and more frozen fresh bread, lots of bacon and even:

We also now have a Blue Food bank box in the shop we aim to keep as a permanent feature. So do pop something in if you so wish and it will all be donated to the Foodbank.

To find us, use NR14 7GD via Mill Road by car foot or cycle or NR14 7AL by foot or cycle from The Covey. Our farm shop is open 8am-9pm every day (weekends and bank holidays included) to complete your shop with lots of local goodies.

Greater Norwich Local Plan

The map of Surlingham recently posted on Surlingham.org showed sites which have been submitted in response to the ‘call for sites’ which is an early phase in the develpment of a local housing policy.  Landowners can submit a site for consideration by the local planning authorities (Norwich, Broadland, and S.N.D.C) as a possible development site. Planning permission is not sought and no plans are submitted at this stage. This ‘call for sites’ is part of the Consultation which is currently open for comment on 6 possible options the GNLP is considering for future housing development. Notices to this effect have been posted on Surlingham.org, as has information on the road shows in the area at which planners are in attendance to answer questions.

5 of the 6 options being considered for future housing development focus on areas which don’t include Surlingham; only 1 option focuses development within a circle around Norwich which would include Surlingham. Surlingham residents might wish to take part in this consultation.

CASUAL VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF COUNCILLOR

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a casual vacancy has occurred in the Office of Councillor for the above Parish (Ward) by reason of the death of Councillor and Vice Chairman Peter Hiscocks.

Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules, 2006 now applies.

An election to fill the vacancy will be held, if within 14 days (not counting Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays) from the date mentioned below for 10 electors for the parish give notice in writing requesting an election to the Returning Officer.

If a request to hold an election is not received, the Parish Council must, as soon as practicable after the expiry of the fourteen-day period, co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.

Norfolk Police – Information on telephone scam

Police are urging residents to be vigilant to cold callers claiming to be police officers.

On each occasion the victims received a call from someone claiming to be a ‘Detective Sergeant John Carod’ or a ‘Detective Sergeant John Witmore’ either stating he needed help with an investigation or officers had intercepted some males who had her credit card details.

The suspect then asks for victims to withdraw a large sum of money from their local bank or to put together gold and jewellery items and they would arrange for them to be collected, mainly by taxi.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Chris Burgess of Norwich CID, urged for residents to be vigilant to this scam.

“I would ask people with vulnerable relatives, friends or neighbours to make sure they are aware of this type of scam.”

Officers have this advice:

• Never give out personal information about your bank account over the phone.
• If someone calls claiming to be a police officer, ask for their identification number and police force. Hang up and call 101 using a different phone. If you can’t use a different phone, wait at least five minutes before calling back. A genuine police officer will not mind waiting while you check.
• Police and banks will never ask you to give out personal details such as account numbers or PIN numbers.
• If you have given out information which could compromise your bank account security in any way, call your bank to cancel your cards as soon as possible.
• Never hand over money to someone at the door to be sent off elsewhere.

Anyone with concerns about such calls should contact Norfolk Police on the non-emergency number 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress. Alternatively, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Greater Norwich Local Plan consultation extended to 22 March 2018

Parish clerk adds –  ‘See below for a map extracted from the GNLP of Surlingham and the sites earmarked for development’.

The public consultation on the emerging (Regulation 18) Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP) has been extended to the 22nd March 2018.

You can comment on  matters such as:

  • The broad housing numbers required to 2036;
  • Six main distribution options for development growth; and
  • Policy issues such as air quality, landscape and affordable housing.

It is very important to note that this is an early consultation stage – no final decisions will be made until later in the plan-making process. You can view the document online at www.gnlp.org.uk, and make your comments at the same time. You don’t need to answer every question – you can simply comment on whichever parts of the plan interest you.

Hard copies of the maps and all other consultation documents can be viewed at the following deposit points:

  • Norfolk County Council, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich (main reception);
  • Norwich City Council, City Hall, St Peters Street, Norwich (2nd floor reception);
  • Broadland District Council, Thorpe Road, Thorpe St Andrew (main reception);
  • South Norfolk Council, Cygnet Court, Long Stratton (main reception).

The quickest and easiest way of responding to the consultation is online at  www.gnlp.org.uk.  Alternatively, you can telephone 01603 306603 to request a paper copy response booklet.  All responses should now be received by 5pm on Thursday 22nd March 2018.
