Did somebody say cake?… again?

*Enter funny joke here*
Usually I am a whirlwind of humour, whit flying off at every direction. However today I couldn’t think of a cake based joke. I know, and there are thousands out there, there must be. Plus why dont you just pinch one off the internet like you usually do you may ask. Pffft. You are too smart for me.

Back to the shop. We have some great things in for you this bank holiday weekend. Spring greens were very popular last week. I bought some myself. Fried them with ginger, garlic and dash of soy sauce. Beautiful as a side dish.
Asparagus is in fresh today as well and only £2.80 a bunch as we are getting into full swing of the season and supply now. More choccy in from Gnaw as that flies off, more ice creams to enjoy, cake (make clear by the huge picture) which is coffee this week, to go with your cup of filter coffee… or tea. Or have a glass of milk with it. Up to you, we just dont have any milk so you will have to bring your own… or get them out of those tiny little milk cups.

Anyways… Brays pork pies, eggs, bacon, yogurts, fresh chicken breasts, thighs, sausage meat chorizo and sausages in the fridge.

And finally, though really I should have mentioned it first, we have new branding and a new website! www.yarevalley.com. Here you can see the beef, the oils, the shop and soon to be about the pool. We will be taking orders for the oil week commencing 8th May, we are just getting everything ready, but as for now have a good old look and let us know what you think.

In regards to the shop as we develop we would love to involve you as much as possible and the comments page has been very helpful, but do click HERE if you have any comments you would like to let us know about regarding the shop so we can aim to improve it for you. No requests for golden tea spoons or a unicorn to greet you at the door please as I have no idea where I would get a golden spoon from and unicorns do not work bank holiday weekends… everyone knows that.

From all of us at the farm we hope to see you down in some form and do have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend whether you are working or free as a bird.

Draft Minutes – Annual Parish Meeting 18 April 2017

One thing was clear at the Annual Parish meeting, Surlingham has a wealth of clubs and organisations. There is something for everyone. If you are looking for a new interest check out the reports attached to this post. The thread running through the comments was that these groups/clubs may not survive in isolation, they all need to support each other to thrive. So if you are in the choir why not join the WI or the creative writing group. If you are in the bowls club how about getting involved with the Festival or FOSS.

All the reports will be on the Parish Noticeboard if the April showers allow!

Using Facebook and other forms of social media then be aware….

Message from Norfolk Constabulary
Fraudsters need just three pieces of personal information to steal your identity, most of which can be found on your Facebook profile.

All it takes is your name, date of birth and address for fraudsters to steal your identity and access your bank accounts, take out loans or take out mobile phones in your name. Recent YouGov research has revealed that a high proportion of social media users risk identity theft by giving fraudsters easy access to this type of personal information. The survey found that almost 30% of adults with a social media account include their full name and date of birth on their profile pages.

Finding out your age and where you live Even if you don’t publicly show your age on your Facebook profile, fraudsters can still work out your age from people wishing you well on your timeline. Once they have your date of birth, they can find out where you live too.

John Marsden, head of ID and fraud at Equifax, said: “People must act now to protect their finances for the long term. More adults in the UK are engaging with social media than ever before, especially on their smartphones, and a high number are readily sharing their personal information on these platforms.” My advice to consumers is to be social savvy; avoid unnecessarily sharing personal details and risking your identity on platforms that can so easily be exploited.

Open afternoon: our village church as a community venue. Saturday May 6th 2.30pm.

A group of local people has recently got together to form a new ‘Friends of Surlingham church’ to encourage use of the church by the local community and as a historic building.

The Friends would like to invite you to an open afternoon on Saturday May 6th any time between 2.30pm and 4pm for tea/coffee and cakes and to see what has happened to the church building in recent years.  The church now has a social area and modern kitchen and toilet facilities, so is a useful space for classes, exhibitions, plays and concerts.

Everyone is welcome – all the more if you haven’t visited the church for a while – or ever.

Post placed on behalf of The Friends of Surlingham Church.
