FOSS Scarecrow Trail Results and A Massive Thank You

First things first! Thank you so much to everyone who made and entered scarecrows in last weekend’s Trail and competition. The amount of creativity and work which had gone into the scarecrows was incredible and the village was truly transformed by the army of little people, and animals all with their own charm and personality on corners, in gardens, in trees…

Walking round the trail on Saturday morning took a very long time – not just because there was so much to look at, but also because it seemed like the whole village were out and about enjoying the show and chatting on the streets! Everyone certainly had their favourites, but with so much variety it was impossible to tell who might end up the ‘peoples favourite’ scarecrow at the end of the weekend.

At the end of the FOSS Summer Fayre on Sunday afternoon, the voting box was broken into and the votes were counted.  There was a good spread of votes but a clear winner stood out – Well Done to Lewis Varley, a pupil at Surlingham School whose scarecrow number 8, Wayne Rooney, was the overall winner.  Lewis was presented with the £25 prize at the end of the Fayre and was really chuffed to be the favourite!

Other scarecrows with lots of votes were as follows:
  • Number 1 (Charlie the Lamb)
  • Number 4 (Golfer, cricketer and train driver)
  • Number 19 (The beautiful giant cat)
  • Number 21 (A couple who had enjoyed a few too many?!)
  • Number 33 (Archie having a wee in a boat!)
  • Number 34 (Wright family and Bridie dog)
And finally a reminder that if you would like to hold onto your scarecrow until August 30th, they will be displayed in the grounds of Padmaloka during the Village Fayre. Further details nearer the time!

Thanks again for all your efforts….photos to follow, so please watch this space!

FOSS SUMMER FAYRE 2014….A HUGE THANK YOU

Despite the torrential rain during set up!, the FOSS Summer Fayre on Sunday was a huge success, everyone said what a great time they were having and the children loved it, which is the most important thing.

A huge, huge thank you to everyone who helped out, to everyone who supported & sponsored the Fayre and to everyone who came along to join in the fun! We are now counting the pennies and will announce how much money was raised very soon.

Special thanks go to…

  • The FOSS mums for their amazing efforts in getting the Fayre ready, setting it up and running it, including Victoria for the fantastic Scarecrow Trail – a massive thank you, ladies
  • All mums, dads, nanas, grandads, aunties and uncles who helped before & on the day – thank you for your hard work
  • The children who helped out on the day – you did a brilliant job!
  • The teaching staff who volunteered to help out & be involved on the day, including James Colbeck and Karen Francis, Chair of Governors
  • The model collectors in the Village Hall, for giving up their Sunday to come & support us
  • The Raptor Trust, K9 Capers & Funky Feet who entertained everyone brilliantly
  • All of the trade stallholders who still came along despite the dreaful conditions setting up
  • Richard & Sheryl Hackney for doing the music and PA system
  • John Broom, Henry Broom & James Pitt for spending their weekend collecting & transporting hay bales, diggers & gas bottles and for dealing with the electrics
  • P.C. Alan Tetley for bringing the police car and spending his wedding anniversary at the Fayre!
  • Tim Mack for the overflow parking field & bales
  • Ian Stiff for the scarecrow straw
  • ‘Trailer Dave’ & John Hannent for moving marquees, tables & chairs from the Progressive Supper on Saturday night and for collecting from the Fayre on Sunday afternoon
  • Sylvia in the shop & Sonia & Natalie in the village pubs for selling our Scarecrow Trail maps
  • And last, but by no means least, Finley & Madison’s Great-Grandad Norman, and his friend, Reg, who back in February helped FOSS to ‘shape’ the Fayre and gave their expert tips on how to make it a success. Thank you, gentlemen.

Watch this space for photos from the Fayre and the Scarecrow Trail!
