Plant, produce and seed exchange – Monday 3rd July

Bramerton Village Hall from 7.00 – 9.00pm

The third 5 Mile Market Garden meeting – an opportunity to swap plants, seeds, produce and ideas. It’s an informal and easy way to source locally grown produce as well as offering any surplus produce, time, ideas and enthusiasm to share with others.

Following on from last months meeting there will be opportunity to find out about a selection of practical ‘produce related’ workshops to be run later this year – from storing crops to making jam, rainwater harvesting, companion planting …. and more. No booking needed – just come along.

More info here and look forward to seeing you there.

Broadband: fibre to the property

Please see below a message from District Councillor Vic Thomson:

You will be aware that I have been trying to get Broadband to properties in your Parish for some time mainly through the Government Voucher Scheme. Said scheme is still not anywhere ready and certainly not this year.

At best your parish properties have Fibre Connected to the Cabinet (FTTC) and then copper from the cabinet to properties. The maximum speed with FTTC is 80 mbs and a degrading speed the further you are away from the cabinet plus a service that is often interrupted.

I contacted a company called County Broadband and they have now written to all your residents offering a Gigafast FTTP service. They are a solid company and already have designs drawn up for connecting your parish. They need to get 25% of properties signed up to start the roll out.

With fibre to the property, you get the service you pay for and far less dropouts due to not having copper wire.

They are offering a range of speeds and contract terms even working round any existing contract you may already have for broadband.

This is by far the quickest way to get fibre connected to properties in you Parish.

You can contact Harry Lowman (harry.lowma@countybraoadband.co.uk) for any questions.

Sunday services (June 18th and 25th) and forthcoming events

Dear All,

I hope that you are enjoying the weather and, if you’re a cricket fan, the start of the Ashes!

This Sunday’s services (18th) are 9.30am Morning Worship at Claxton and 11am Communion at Kirby Bedon.

Next Sunday (June 25th) sees communion services at 9.30am Surlingham and 11am Bramerton. Cafe Church meets in Rockland Parish Room on the theme ‘The Cost of Living’. Please drop in anytime between 10.30am and 12 Noon. At 4pm ‘Still with the Sun’ in the Barn we reflect on the sun’s power and symbolism through words, music, stillness and refreshment.

Looking ahead, Warm Welcome at the Barn is happening on June 26th, 11am to 2.30pm. All welcome for refreshments, lunches and good company!

Celtic Prayer meets in Surlingham Church porch at 10am on June 27th for quiet prayer and reflection in a peaceful setting.

June’s Art Café in the Barn is open from 10.30am – 12 Noon on Wednesday 28th. Come along for fresh coffee cake, and the chance to experience some nature art!

Sadly for us, Revd Cate Turner has been appointed to a new ministry (to be announced later). She will be greatly missed for all she has contributed during her three year curacy in Thurton benefice and valuable contributions she has made to our benefice. July 30th will be her final Sunday, so it feels appropriate that we should say farewell to Cate and Iain in their benefice, at an 11am communion service in Bergh Apton, followed by a bring and share lunch in the churchyard (or village hall if wet). This replaces the Hellington service advertised in Eleven Says.

Finally, may I offer a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who supported Christian Aid Week so generously. £185.66 (including gift aid) was raised at May’s Warm Welcome and through donation envelopes received from the benefice.

Best wishes, Nick
