Wildlife and Wellbeing…

… on your doorstep

Alderfen Marshes is a small conservation area in Surligham, managed to benefit wildlife and provide opportunities to engage with nature.

The links between nature and wellbeing are well known, with tangible benefits to physical and mental health. With this in mind, the marshes provide a tranquil location to get away from it all for a little while and engage with nature.

With a range of engagements from physical activity to relaxation time, our aim is to offer activities which benefit the mind, body and natural environment.

‘Green Gym’ conservation; a great way to ‘get physical’ at your own pace and schedule, surrounded by wildlife (picture above)
Yoga and pilates in a calm outdoor environment by the water to stretch the body and relax the mind (next session 21st of July at 6.00pm)
Reserve a private, peaceful picnic area on the marshes for time out and head space
Secluded wild camping for a night or two in natural surroundings – get away from it all
Canadian canoe hire to explore the beautiful backwaters of Surlingham broad and beyond
Spoon carving for a creative and cathartic activity to switch off and relax
Charcoal making – step back in time to a self-sufficient era of using local resources.
Wild harvest – identifying and sustainably utilising plants growing naturally on the marshes

Let us know if you are interested in finding out more or taking part in any of the above. It’s informal, relaxed and flexible. Just drop us a line.

Last Weekend’s session at the Community Orchard

A big thank you to the volunteers who came along to cut grass and do battle with the brambles etc. The new hedging seems to be holding its own and the fruit trees are growing slowly – a minor miracle given the frequent long dry spells. We hope to meet up there again in early Autumn.
