Hello Surlingham!
We do hope you are all well and safe with your beloved ones. Also we’d love to thank everyone for all the support, kind words and concern you have had with us in these unprecedented times.
This is just a quick notice to let everyone know that we will be open this Friday in our usual opening hours (10.00 to 4.00). If you’d like to pre order and collect just give us a ring. We will have lots on the counter to take away too – as much as it break our hearts, this is the only thing we can do: collection, take away or deliveries and no eating or drinking in the premises or in our lovely courtyard. Thank you all for your understanding.
Birthday cakes during this lockdown are still possible (as we have always done) just let us know what you’d like.
Deliveries are part of our daily routine now so tell us if you need anything as well as if you need us to do your shopping or if you require any special assistance. We are here to help.

In the meantime, stay home, stay safe.

Patient information. The surgery at Poringland will be open between 8am and 2pm this Friday 8th May (Bank Holiday). Our dispensary will be open for the collection of pre-ordered medication.

Trussell Trust Food Bank Collection

Thanks to everyone who donated.  I was really touched by the response and generosity of people at such a difficult time.  When I emptied my boot at their warehouse, the volunteer I spoke to apologised as he said they would normally send personal thanks for a donation such as ours, but they were so busy at present, they weren’t getting around to their thank-you’s.  I told him not to worry and that I would pass on his gratitude.

He was especially grateful as he said this weekend he’d been delivering to more families than ever before, as families feel the economic pinch of the situation we find ourselves in. He reiterated the need for canned tomatoes, canned fruit, packets of ‘smash’, long life milk, and long life fruit juice.

With that in mind I intend to take another donation next month. So as before, please could people leave donations on my porch by 9am Monday 1st June. If you who would like more information about The Trussell Trust, please visit their website here:

There are still some places for Surlingham’s light-hearted quiz  on zoom this Thursday (7th May).  To participate please express your interest using Contact Us (top right of S.org menu) and we’ll email you a zoom** link on Wednesday.  Everyone is welcome.  The format will be broadly similar to the Ferry House pub quizzes.

We ask participants to assemble on zoom at 6.50pm ready for a 7pm sharp start. We’ll have an 15 minute interval starting just before 8pm to ‘Clap For Our Carers’ and then resume the quiz for another half hour or so, so it won’t go on too late.  No prizes – just publication of the winners on Surlingham.org

** to participate you will need to have downloaded the zoom app, but you do NOT need to be registered on zoom.  For the quiz you will really need a tablet or computer, not a phone.

Chrissie Ryding is delivering items to The Trussell Food Bank in Norwich on Monday 4th May.

If you would like to contribute, please leave your donations in her porch at The Willows, 16 The Street by 9am on Monday.

The food bank have advised that they would particularly like tinned tomatoes and pasta sauces. Tinned and dried food that will last is ideal and preferable to fresh food with a limited shelf life.

Join your neighbours to honour those who lost their lives in the war and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May.

Decorate your house (and yourselves) in red, white and blue bunting. Get out the Union Jacks and fly them proudly. In addition to the published schedule below it has been suggested that families could take their exercise at 2pm on bicycles or on foot around the village.

Please remember to follow the social distancing rules.
