I am very pleased to annouce that the successful litter pick which took place between Hill House Road and the Surlingham Ferry back in February of this year was entered into the South Norfolk Big Litter Pick 2018 prize draw and we have been awarded a prize of £220.

In order to build upon the success of the February litter pick and deliver sustainable benefits to our community £100 was used to purchase 20 litter picks through South Norfolk District Council for future use by those in our community.  The remaining £120 was donated to the Ted Ellis Trust.

I look forward to seeing you all again next February, date to be confirmed.

Information received from Jasmine Atkins

In response to an earlier post regarding the boardwalk by the gun club, the Parish Council contacted a member of the Trails team for an update.

The response was that the repairs are taking longer than anticipated. However, there is every intention to provide a better walking solution for all users.

You will be informed as soon as the Parish Council receives any more information.

The Forum is an independent, campaigning and consultative group open to anyone interested in older people and their welfare in the South Norfolk area and is looking for new members.

It’s free to join and once you become a member, you’ll receive news about all the Forum’s activities.

There are three meetings a year and the next one is the AGM on 12 July at 10am in the South Norfolk Council Chamber at South Norfolk House in Long Stratton.

Forum Secretary Pearl Fisher said: “Come along and discover more about what we do and  find out how you can help make South Norfolk an even better place for older people. We’ll have tea, coffee and biscuits and you’ll be most welcome.”

Norfolk County Council writes –

As you are aware the Better Broadband for Norfolk is facilitating the provision of Superfast Broadband in areas of Norfolk where installation is not commercially viable.

A new communications cabinet (reference BBfN Surlingham 8) is to be installed on the grass verge, right of the Telephone Exchange, Bramerton Road, Surlingham (13.0m right of the existing electricity pole and 3.5m back from road edge) to serve residents & businesses in the immediate surrounding area. No date for installation is currently available, however the BBfN Programme is due to complete by the end of March 2020.

People can check to see which BT structure their property is served from and available speeds using the BT Wholesale Line Checker

Once a fibre solution is available an “VDSL” option will be shown. Prior to implementation copper based broadband speeds are shown as “ADSL”.
