Researching the history of Surlingham Ferry

Paul Staniforth from Bramerton is currently updating the research on the history of the ‘Ferry’ and the adjacent Inn.

The history of the ferry itself goes way back to 1586 and almost certainly existed a century or more before that. Extensive research was undertaken in 19xx before the days when www was easily accessible.

Paul is using this to source photographs held by private collectors as well as supplementary information concerning trade on the river at that time. He is particularly keen to get his hands on a photograph of the MTB 653 probably owned by the Norwich Sea Cadets which mored up in his memory about 30 years ago. Any significant historical events press cuttings or B/W or sepia prints would be welcome.

      Call Paul on 01508538195

      Want to play Cricket?

Do you enjoy cricket? There is a flourishing local club on our doorstep, playing regularly at the City of Norwich School.

Eaton Cricket Club is approaching its 83rd season and are about to start their programme of indoor net practices which take place on Saturday mornings from 18th March onwards.

Saturdays games are at Level 1 in the Norfolk League and they play a six-month season of Sunday friendlies from mid-April to mid-September as well as entering two midweek cup competitions.

The club are always pleased to give opportunities for youngsters from the age of 13 to improve their game by involvement in adult cricket and they would equally welcome anyone who has recently moved into the area or has had a break from the game. Their Sunday side, particularly, can cater for all ages and abilities.

If you would like to know more, please contact Surlingham resident and Eaton Cricket Club member Craig Neave on 07957660101 or craigneave83@hotmail.co.uk

      The summer beckons!
