This week’s services, video and the coronation weekend
Dear All,
I hope you are keeping well and enjoying the Bank holiday weekend.
This week’s service (Sunday 30th) when we join our Thurton benefice friends at the 10am Group Communion at Ashby St. Mary.
Helen has filmed a service for this week that you can watch here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0IW9EMDlaw
Please keep King Charles and Queen Camilla in prayer as they prepare for next Saturday’s coronation. Due to a number of afternoon events being held in our villages on Sunday (May 7th) the Lunch in the Barn has been changed to Crowns, Coffee and Croissants at the earlier time of 9.30am – 11am. Come and make a crown, enjoy a late breakfast and come along to the Coronation Thanksgiving service is St. Mary’s Church at 11am. I would be most grateful if you would kindly share the attached flyers in church porches and on local noticeboards.
Finally, thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting and Carleton’s Spring Fundraiser.
With best wishes, Nick

Dawn Chrous on Alderfen Marshes
May is the ideal time to take in the delightful dawn chorus over the marshes.
It’s a bit of nature that should be shared and experienced widely so we’d like to make it accessible to Surlingham residents. If you would like to spend an early morning or two enjoying the dawn chorus on Alderfen Marshes this May, just let us know.

The most abundant chorus resonates on clear, dry mornings during May from approx 5.00am. As the month progresses the chorus changes, incorporating the sounds of migrant birds as they arrive.
Numbers are limited each morning to protect the natural habitat from disturbance, so please let us know your preferred day and time and we’ll get back to you to confirm.
This morning’s chorus sounded like this …. and we’re still in April
No dogs please as the marshes are a SSSI conservation area.
We look forward to welcoming you to Alderfen Marshes.

No Mow May
With spring rapidly greening up gardens, we ask you once again to think about making that little bit of difference to local wildlife by leaving areas of your lawn or front verge unmown for the month of May
We’ve lost nearly 97% of flower rich meadows since the 1970’s and with them a vital food source for pollinators, like bees and butterflies. A healthy lawn with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution and can even lock away carbon below ground – and best of all, to reap these benefits all you have to do is to leave your mower in the shed!
With over 20 million gardens in the UK, even the smallest grassy patches add up to a significant proportion of our land which, if managed properly, can deliver enormous gains for nature, communities and the climate. The charity Plantlife is calling for people to get involved with #NoMowMay and let wild plants get a head start on the summer. For more information follow this link, which has resources and has some printable posters you can display on your shaggy lawns to let people know you’re doing your bit for the bees!
